WHEN WILL MY PUPPY FIRST SEE THE VET
Here at Henderson Labrador Puppies, the health of your puppy is very important. After your puppy is born we let them rest with the mother for 3 days and then we ourselves remove the dew claws.. It is non-painful and your puppy will not remember anything about it.
After 2 weeks your puppy along with his/her mother are wormed.. They are wormed by us here are Henderson Labradors with Safeguard (given 3 day in a row). This cycle is performed every 2 weeks until you puppy goes to his/her new home.. Even though your puppy shows to have no worms, your puppy might be retaning worms or larvae. Your Vet will assign you a worming schedule if necessary.
At the age of 4 weeks your puppy is given their first shot (5 way, giving by Henderson Labrador Puppies)..Your puppy needs this shot again at the age fo 9 and 12 weeks of age. Rabie shot is given when your puppy is 16 weeks of age.. Heart worm tablets need to be started at 12 weeks of age. We strongly urge for you to wait for a least 1 week until you give your puppy a shot due to the fact that a vacanation can do very little if given directly after Puppy has had its maiden Plane Ride
and has not fully transitioned into its new family.
WHEN WILL MY PUPPY BE INTRODUCED TO FOOD AND WATER
Your Puppy has been on a High Quality Diet. We start our Puppies on Purina Puppy Food” Puppy Starts at about 3 weeks of age. They nibble with Mother at this time and start the change over to solid food very well. At five weeks plus, the weaning starts and by six weeks the Pups are on the food and Mother is relaxing. From six weeks to about 6 months we keep them on Purina Puppy Food and From six months of age we blend in “Purina Puppy & Purina Adult dog food. This food is available at most Petco/PetSmart type stores. You will receive a sample of this with your Puppy. It is very important to keep them on a High Quality Puppy Food to ensure they get the nutrients they need when they are growing up.
We require that you feed your Puppy a High Quality Food. There are many foods available and If you prefer a different brand that has been proven to you in the Past, slowly mix it in with the Purina Puppy and Your Puppy will do just fine. Do this over a period of about two weeks for best results. We don’t want a feed change over just as soon as Puppy arrives to your home.
Your Puppy has been eating about 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups of food per day. Puppy’s eating habits will change once in your Home. If Puppy gobbles, feed him a little more, if he leaves some, feed him a little less. Puppy will adjust to its new Home and eating habits will be more stable. If Puppy doesn’t seem to want to eat at first in its new home, don’t be alarmed. Puppy has a whole new world to explore and sometimes eating will have to come Later!
WHAT RECORDS WILL I GET WITH MY NEW PUPPY
We have a very strict preventative medical program that we follow here at Henderson Labradors. Our Vac’s and Worming’s are listed below. This Medical record MUST be brought to your Vet. Your Vet will see what has been given to your Puppy and Put your Puppy on a schedule for Puppy’s future needs.
Your Puppy will receive:
1. Vaccination at 4 weeks of age ( NeoPar , Parvo shot only)
2. Vaccination at 6 weeks of age (5 way shot)
3. Vaccination at 9 weeks of age
4. Wormings at 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. weeks until goes to his/her new home (Safeguard, 3 day in a row)
5. Ear Mite Prevention at 2, 4, 6 weeks of age.( Drops in ear if needed)
If you are receiving your Puppy after the age of 12 weeks: Puppy will have its recommended 12 weeks Vac.
Vaccination for Rabies from our Vet (only if your state requires it at 12 weeks)Vaccination at 9 weeks of age
